Social Entrepreneurship

A social entrepreneur is somebody who recognizes a social problem in society, and tries to make a change. Social entrepreneurs use business-like or entrepreneurship principles to achieve a long-term, positive change in society.
Two examples of social entrepreneurs are Susan B. Anthony and Florence Nightingale. Susan B. Anthony advocated women's rights and women's suffrage. Her efforts eventually lead to the 19th amendment, which granted women the right to vote, and more women demanding rights in all aspects of their lives. Florence Nightingale was a nurse who improved hospital conditions and brought new respect to the profession.

This week, I learned how to give a powerful PowerPoint presentation, with an interesting introduction that draws the audience, a lot of great content in the middle, and a powerful ending.
I also learned a lot about how to present in front of an audience, which is an important life skill.

Week of November 7

This week, I learned a lot about how to make presentations in PowerPoint. I made a presentation based on a topic of my choosing. I researched facts about that topic, organized an intro, middle, and an end, and experimented with different themes.

What I Learned

This week, in Microsoft Office 2007, I had to make a newsletter step-by-step by following the directions on a PowerPoint. I learned a lot about using Smart Art, putting borders on your document, using columns, changing the theme, using Word Art, and inserting a block of text from a different file into your document.

Week 3

I had to work with a partner to finish my newsletter. We did ours on themes, fonts, and colors. Before we did this assignment, I had no clue how to use themes, and now I do.

Week 2

This week I learned how to use Microsoft Office 2007 to my advantage so that I could insert a bibliography and use it for in-text citations.

Week of September 6th-September 9th

This week, I learned a lot about different ways to research information. Before this week, I had never used tools like Mashpedia, Sweet Search, or Google News, and those ended up being very helpful for my Project Topic Research. I'll definitely use these tools in the future.
For my project topic research, I think that I'm going to do the starvation crisis in the Horn of Africa.
